espresso-book-printerImagine while shopping at the mall you stop by a kiosk to order a paperback book just as you would a cup of coffee or a soda by machine? Cool, right?

Check out this new on demand book printer that can create a paperback edition of any publication available in its catalog. The user simply chooses a title and the “Espresso Book Machine” starts printing, binding, adds the cover, trims it, and spits out a single copy within minutes.

The Espresso Book Machine is being developed by On Demand Books, in New York City. The book printer is currently being offered in bookstores around the country. The company is currently working on getting many publishers on board to be able to make every book ever printed available on-demand.

What does this new technology mean to bookstores and readers?

The Espresso Book Machine gives small bookstores the ability to compete with larger retailers such as Amazon.com by offering publications without having to stock them on the shelves.

Books will never go “out of print”. This brings infinite life to all books and publications to be available anytime and anywhere in at least an updated paperback edition.

Eventually, anyone will be able to create a book available to be cataloged and printed on-demand. This will save big bucks in production costs. it also has the potential to be a very environmentally friendly way to deliver books to readers. No long print runs. No long deliveries.
